Orenuga to nurses: Impact patients, transform healthcare sector


The Provost, Lagos State College of Nursing, LASCON, Igando, Mrs Oyefunso Orenuga, has called on nurses and midwives to have a reformative mindset to impact their patients and transform the healthcare sector.

Orenuga made the call at a seminar held at the college to celebrate this year’s Nurses’ Week and the National Florence Nightingale Day, who has been described as the Mother of Modern Nursing.

According to the Public Affairs Officer of LASCON, Mrs. Folasade Adeniji, in a statement, Orenuga stressed that Nurses Day is a special day to honour and celebrate the contributions of nurses all over the world.

The day is celebrated on Florence Nightingale’s birth anniversary every year to commemorate and recognize her dedication to the improvement of the healthcare services.

Orenuga explained that the seminar with the theme, “Psychology of Behaviour: Your Mindset is Everything” is part of continuous efforts to expose students of the college to the growth mindset, thereby paving ways for them to excel in their profession.

Speaking also at the seminar, Barrister Jide Ologun, the guest speaker listed the components of a growth mindset to include Motivation, Information, Networking, Determination, Strategy, Excellence and Transformation.

Ologun, who said Nightingale became a reformer and a trail blazer in the nursing and healthcare sector due to her resolve to make an impact, charged nurses, midwives and nurses in training to embrace reformative innovations to transform the health sector and Nigeria as a country.

The President, Students Association, Lagos State College of Nursing Mr. Martins Ebubeogu, appreciated the Provost and Management of the College for putting up the seminar to impact the nurses and midwives.

He implored the students to implement what was learnt to their profession.

The week was concluded yesterday with an outreach by the students to the community sensitising them on malaria infection.
