Wizkid, Beyonce Win 2021 MTV VMA Awards

Nigerian music star, Wizkid and American superstar, Beyonce won a moonman on Monday, September 13, 2021 for Best Cinematography at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

The award was for the music video for ‘Brown Skin Girl’ made for Beyonce’s album, Lion King: The Gift which featured other Nigerian artists.

Wizkid was in the category alongside Beyonce, who co-owns the song alongside Saint Jhn and Beyonce’s daughter Blue Ivy.

The award will also go to Jenn Nkiru, a Nigerian-born cinematographer who directed the video.

This is the 40th MTV Video Music Awards and it was held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

It was hosted by Doja Cat. Other winners included Lil Nas X, who took home multiple awards, including the coveted Video of the Year trophy as well as honors for Best Direction and Best Visual Effects, all for his single ‘Montero (Call Me by Your Name).’

Olivia Rodrigo won Best New Artist and Song of the Year (for “Drivers License”), Justin Bieber won both Artist of the Year and Best Pop, for his song “Peaches,” featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, Billie Eilish won Video for Good for her ballad “Your Power”.

BTS won Group of the Year; and Travis Scott won Best Hip-Hop for “Franchise” (featuring Young Thug & M.I.A.)
